Since 1984, Blanchard Community Library's adult literacy program, Building English Skills Together (BEST), has been providing flexible and practical educational opportunities to support adult literacy in Santa Paula.
BEST supports adult learners improve reading, writing, and conversational English. We also help to prepare for high school equivalency tests and to use computers and other digital tools.
One-on-one tutoring and small group sessions are available year-round. They are led by trained and dedicated volunteers committed to helping our learners achieve their goals.
Building English Skills Together Book Discussion
Become a better reader and improve your conversational English. Practice reading aloud and speaking with other English language learners every Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

ESL Classes:
The library offers two ESL classes. Level 1 supports adult learners who possess little to no English proficiency. Level 2 is offered to adult learners who have a good command of English and would like to advance their skills further. A TESOL-certified instructor teaches both classes. Classes and supplies are free. Walk-ins are welcome.

Abriendo Puertas / Opening Doors

Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors ayuda a los padres a desarrollar habilidades de liderazgo y conocimiento a través de entrenamiento en persona, promueve el bienestar familiar y resultados positivos en niños de 0 a 5 años de edad.
El programa consiste en 5 sesiones interactivas que ayudan a los padres a construir bases sólidas para sus hijos en lectura, matemáticas, tecnología y salud. Los padres se apoyan unos a otros y hacen de lo que aprenden parte de su vida diaria.

Become a powerful agent of change in the lives of your children and community
Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors builds parent leadership skills and knowledge through in-person training to promote family well-being and positive outcomes for children 0-5 years of age.
The curriculum consists of 5 interactive sessions that assist parents in building strong foundations for their children in reading, math, technology, and health. Parents support each other in making what they learn a part of daily life.
